Mission:
Welcome to Union Mining Station Number 42
Location: USS Yamamoto - UMS 42
ON:
The mid size ship, USS Yamamoto, arrived in orbit of the station and Chris immediately went over to a viewport. To him, this was heaven. "Rocks!" he said in quiet delight as he went down the corridors.
The comscanner came to life. "Lieutenant Wayne, report to the shuttle bay."
Chris opened his comscanner. "Yes, Captain," he replied, to his soon to be, former CO. He headed straight there. As he left the ship in a shuttle, one also departed from the station. Potentially an even swap.
Once aboard the station and the transfer was complete, Chris, with the aid of directions, made his way to the CO's office. He tugged at his green uniform before ringing the chime.
Captain Cayne Morrigan was behind his desk, seemingly the only place he was currently. He was so close to feeling like he was on top of the mess of paperwork and he had a meeting with the Worker's Union looming over him as well. He looked up when Chris stepped through the door, but did not rise. "Okay, who are you?" he asked, abruptly.
"Lieutenant Chris Wayne, Sir. Transfer from USS Yamamoto. Science., Chris said, wincing at the stack of papers on his desk. "Glad I'm not a captain," he mumbled.
"Chief Science Officer... right?" Cayne felt like he was getting better at this. "Geologist? That'll come in handy, seeing as how we're in the business of mining rocks out here. Best source of dysonium in the Union. I think... maybe. That's what they tell me anyway. Have a seat? I'm assuming you just got here?"
"Thanks, Sir," Chris said. "Yes, Sir. Just got dropped off by the Yamamoto," he added, taking a seat in an empty chair to the left of the desk.
"Ah, yes. They didn't even stop..." Cayne commented. "I'm sure they're busy." He shrugged and put the tablet he had been looking at down on the pile on his desk. "Are you ready to get started or do you need time to settle?" Cayne asked. "Have you found your office?"
"I can get started right away if you'd like, Sir," Chris said. "Although, I haven't found my office yet."
Cayne blinked at him slowly. It was possible that his expression might be one of irritation, but in actuality he was trying to remember where
the Science office was. Trying to save a little bit of face, he grabbed the nearest tablet off the pile on his desk and looked up the office's location. "So the Science labs and offices are on deck two of Oome... We're currently on Vorl..."
"Current Vorl... offices Oome. Got it," Chris said, nodding.
"There's been a lot of confusion about where everything is. The computer doesn't like to tell people that there are spacewalks between everything. It's got people going in circles. Vorl, Oome and Issi are the names of the asteroids. So, if you're on one and someone says you need to be on another... look for the spacewalk. So you study rocks?" They'd already been over the rock conversation, but Cayne didn't want to talk about asteroids anymore, even though they were rocks.
"It's my degree, sure, but I can do more. I'm no one trick pony, but I'm good with rocks. Does that make sense?" Chris said.
Cayne laughed. "Good with rocks..." he repeated. He sounded amused, in a slightly sarcastic sort of way and dropped heavily into his chair behind his desk, his data tablet still in hand. "Well, I suppose that's good. Plenty of rocks... including some of the people. I just sent you your department roster. I'm sure once we're sorted we'll start in on crew evaluations."
"Sounds great to me," Chris said.
"We will have a station meeting soon, other than that... if you don't have any questions... you can go find your quarters if you want. They're probably going to be located on Issi."
"That works for me. Get a little rest and explore a little bit." Chris smiled. "Maybe something to eat." He laughed.
"Food is never a bad idea." Cayne grinned.
Chris returned the smile.
